THE LOVING CUP have developed their own brand of rockin country and blues Americana, drawing together influences such as Gram Parsons, Delaney and Bonnie, Ry Cooder and The Band.

Very much a ‘live act’, The Loving Cup’s sound was described by Mike Davidson of Gigwise in a review of a Liverpool Barfly gig as “a warm and soulful set of country-influenced rock‘n’roll. The Loving Cup possess a mean songwriting ability for creating driving anthems that positively beg to be blaring out from a soft top Chevy cruising Route 66”.

The Loving Cup’s reputation as a “good-time” rock‘n’roll band has been forged over recent years by performances across the UK on the Americana circuit and as regulars at the internationally recognised and respected Burnley Blues Festivals and The Great British Rhythm and Blues festivals. This has been complemented by live sets on BBC Radio Lancashire’s Blue Notes programme and live sessions for BBC Radio Wales.

The Loving Cup released their debut single in 2004; a double A-side of material from which one of the tracks, ‘Candyman’, received considerable television exposure as music for a Morrisons national advertising campaign.

Now The Loving Cup have finished recording their second album - Goofer Dust - which is released in the Summer of 2008. There are promotional copies available ahead of that upon request. The Loving Cup have recently received airplay on the Radio 2 show God’s Jukebox. DJ Mark Lamarr described the track “Bring along your lovers” from the forthcoming Goofer Dust LP as “an instant classic”. The band will be performing a live session for this Radio 2 show at the BBC Maida Vale studios in September 2008. The band have also been included on the playlist for Bob Harris’ show on Radio 2.

BBC Radio Wales DJ and newspaper columnist Adam Walton likened the formation of The Loving Cup to a Dr. Frankenstein fantasy in which the mad scientist is reading his recipe:-

“Keith Richards’ brain’ – he won’t miss it. ‘Gram Parsons’ Country Lilt’, ‘The Swagger of Jagger’, ‘The Fingers from John Squire’s Left-Hand (currently unused)’, ‘The Allman Brothers’ Bottleneck’, Levon Helm’s Sense of Rhythm.’”
